Proctor Academy is the clear definition of learning, Proctor offers experiential learning by off campus programs, learning in the classroom or through athletics, however many people disagree with the teaching styles of Proctor because of the schools outgoing personality and the "untraditional" ways of learning. Live to learn, Learn to live.

Although Emerson doesn't like book work or home work, he might appreciate all of the opportunities presented to the student, like off campus classrooms and different activies where we learn through experience.

Although the amount of technology we use everyday is something Emerson would see as disconnected from nature, proctor has many qualities and programs such as wilderness orientation that really bring you closer to nature and reflection.

  4. In Proctor, students have opportunity to learn from nature, we could do experiments or study near the pond. All of these learning methods are fit in Emerson's view point.

  5. Although Proctor does not follow all of Emerson's environmental guidelines verbatim and even go against his beliefs with the excessive amount of technology, he would approve of some of what Proctor does such as the wilderness orientation.

We believethat Emerson would appreciate the nature aspect of the school whilst what we are sure of is that Emerson would not like to be part of this school during the winters as we spend so much time inside.

Emerson would have mixed feelings on the present day proctor community. On one hand, Proctor is immersed in the outdoors, independent, hands on learning community. However, Proctor is constantly using technology as a form of social distraction, students are also heavily studying all of the time. There are aspects that Emerson would be appreciate, while some would contradict with how he describes an American scholar.

If Emerson was to come back he would not like what he sees at first with everybody inside using text books and not learning from the world; however if he looked deeper he would like mountain classroom and all of our off campus programs and he would like proctors ideals overall, so Emerson wouldn't be disappointed nor would he love it here.
